This Special Event was so much FUN!

Make48 is a 48-hour competition where teams are presented with a challenge and tasked to build a physical prototype, create a sales sheet, produce a 1-minute marketing video and pitch their big idea to a panel of judges.

In April 2024, Make48 hosted another out of this world competition at The Kansas State School for the Blind in Kansas City, KS. We mixed it up this year with teams coming from blind schools nationwide to compete in a state vs state challenge! With access to expert tool technicians and high-tech equipment, competing teams had the power to build almost anything.

Collaboration is the key to success in all our competitions. Many people have big ideas but few possess the resources to develop a prototype that turns them into reality. To build anything, different skills, materials and equipment must work together to create a final product. Make48 allows this process to be achieved with a fun, fast-paced, and educational event. First place team won $2000 and advanced to the nationals in November 2024.

KSSB is a catalyst and leader in the development of exemplary programs and practices in vision services in Kansas.  They build local capacity throughout the state via strategic partnerships to ensure learners with visual impairments are able to assume responsible roles in society and lead fulfilling lives. The Kansas State School for the Blind offers many programs including online courses, extended day and school year services, early education and transition to life beyond the K-12 school system.

Event Date: April 12-14, 2024
