See what happened in Milwaukee at the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design!

Join Us for an incredible competition at the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD) campus in Milwaukee, Wisconsin!

Make48 is a 48-hour competition where teams are given a challenge for which they build a physical prototype, create a sales sheet, and produce a 1-minute marketing video, all to pitch in front of industry-leading judges. The twist is that we have tool technicians and access to makerspaces full of equipment and tools, all to help the teams build almost anything their imaginations can come up with to solve the challenge.  To come out on top, collaboration is the key to success. The team that claims first prize will win $2000, and advance to the Nationals in March 2023.

Everyone has big ideas, but few have the skills physically or digitally to make a prototype. You need collaboration, often many different materials, and various pieces of equipment to finish a product. Make48 allows this process to be achieved in a timed, fun, fast-moving, and educational event!

MIAD is a place where students, staff, and faculty engage with developing technologies. The purpose of the makerspaces is to help students learn how to use a variety of processes and technologies to support their creative practice.  All students have full access to the makerspaces, regardless of course of study or discipline. The makerspaces support working in mediums such as photography, printmaking, sculpture, textiles, woodworking, rapid prototyping, immersive technology, and physical computing.

In 1903, out of a small shed in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, four young men lit a cultural wildfire that would grow and spread across geographies and generations. Their innovation and imagination for what was possible on two wheels sparked a transportation revolution and lifestyle that would make Harley-Davidson the most desirable motorcycle brand in the world. We hope to see the Make48 teams rise to their challenge during our competition in Milwaukee!
