Get Ready to Be Inspired! UW-Stout Make48 Episodes are LIVE on YouTube!

Menomonie, WI – May 15, 2025 – The wait is over, Make48 fans! We're thrilled to announce that the full episodes from the competition hosted at the incredible University of Wisconsin-Stout (UW-Stout) are now available to watch on our Make48 YouTube channel!

Watch as these talented young minds tackle a real-world challenge in just 48 intense hours. During Season 8, we landed at Wisconsin's Polytechnic University, a place distinguished by its career-focused, applied learning and research. UW-Stout provided the perfect backdrop for innovation, and its impressive Center for Innovation & Development’s Fab Lab became the vibrant hub of creativity. Equipped with cutting-edge digital fabrication tools like 3D printers and laser cutters, the Fab Lab empowers students and makers to transform their ideas into tangible realities.

The challenge, presented by Derrick Building Solutions, tasked teams with revolutionizing construction safety. We welcomed eight enthusiastic teams of high school and college students from across Northwestern Wisconsin, all eager to put their skills to the test.

Let's give a shout-out to the incredible teams who participated:

The UW-Stout FabLab, under the direction of Mike Cropp, proved to be an ideal environment for this high-stakes competition. Mike and his exceptional student team (Alex Dill, EJ Antoniewicz, Madi Klaja, Miranda Johnstone, Sam Bachofen, and Thomas Shamla) not only crafted the stunning "Best Innovation Trophy" but also provided invaluable technical assistance to all the competing teams. Their dedication was truly inspiring!

The spirit of collaboration extended throughout the university. We were fortunate to have talented UW-Stout film students (Lucas Furst, Noah Schwengels, Jadyn Miller, Maya Miller, March Gutman, Audra Rick, Tayler Schumacher, Tristan Hagen, and Annija Bodniece) on hand to help the teams create compelling marketing videos for their inventions.

We also extend our sincere gratitude to our incredible Make48 veterans: Ryan Patterson from ShopBot Tools, Steve Meyers from Onshape, John Zehren from Gateway Technical College, and our lead tool tech Tyler Isaacs from Wooden Whiskers Trading Co. Their expertise and guidance are always crucial to the success of our events.

A distinguished panel of judges, including Aaron Sundeen from Derrick Building Solutions, Chancellor Katherine Frank from UW-Stout, and Kristie Larson from The DeBruce Foundation, faced the challenging task of evaluating the innovative solutions presented by each team.

This incredible event wouldn't have been possible without the generous support of our Wisconsin partners.

A heartfelt thank you to mentors Casey Ryan and Mike Derrick from Derrick Building Solutions for their invaluable guidance on construction safety. We also deeply appreciate the support from: Andersen Windows, Xcel Energies, OEM, TTM, Presto, Rice Lake Weighing Systems, Workforce Development, GMDC, WCMP, Momentum West, Dunn County EDC, 3M, Valmet, Greater Beloit EDC, Stateline Manufacturing Assoc., Stateline Community Foundation, Beloit Memorial H.S., Racine Rotary, Racine Community Foundation, United Way of Racine, Donald Kirby, Menomonie Tourism Bureau, and BioForward Wisconsin.
