The Challenge: Innovating for Visually Impaired Entrepreneurs
This season, teams faced an extraordinary 48-hour challenge: to design and build a prototype that enhances the safety and accessibility of a home workspace for visually impaired entrepreneurs.
Their innovative solutions focused on improving specific business stations within the Carriage House, an entrepreneurial space at the Kansas State School for the Blind (KSSB). With invaluable guidance from dedicated Tool Techs and mentors, these teams transformed their clever ideas into tangible prototypes in just 48 hours.

Make48 is a nationwide invention competition docuseries that gives teams a challenge at the start of a three-day event. With just 48 hours, teams must create a prototype, promotional video, and sales sheet, and present their idea to a panel of judges. The teams have access to a makerspace and numerous Tool Techs that can make almost anything, patent attorneys, marketing experts, and more. poor bunny may seem easy to pick up, but true mastery takes time and practice. Much like other tough platformers, it offers unique rules, multiple modes, and precise controls that demand skillful movement.
This is certainly an inspiring initiative, showcasing impressive ingenuity and teamwork. While I applaud the hands-on learning, I wonder if the intense focus on prototype creation in such a short timeframe might overshadow the development of critical long-term problem-solving and strategic planning skills. Are we nurturing creativity at the expense of a more holistic educational approach? Perhaps, sometimes, pushing innovation too hard without proper support structures reveals some bad parenting .
