Teams Have Been Chosen For The Women in STEM Make48 Challenge!

Get ready for an electrifying weekend of ingenuity and collaboration as the Kansas City Art Institute plays host to the highly anticipated Women in STEM Make48 Competition, taking place July 11th to 13th, 2025!

The power of female innovation as eight all-female teams converge in the heart of Kansas City to tackle a hands-on challenge will be a sight to see. These creatives will be competing for a coveted $2,000 prize and, even more excitingly, a golden ticket to the National Finale. The best part? Their entire journey, from brainstorming to the final reveal, will be captured by a film crew, bringing all the excitement to your screens in two exclusive episodes on Roku’s This Old House Makers Channel!


We received an incredible response from schools and organizations, making the selection process for this year's competition exceptionally competitive. While it was challenging to choose, we are thrilled to announce eight remarkable all-female teams who will be competing. They represent a diverse range of organizations and cities, reflecting the outstanding talent present in the STEM landscape:



While the competition is sure to be fierce, the spirit of collaboration and learning will undoubtedly shine through. We're thrilled to introduce you to the teams who have already unveiled their names, representing the vibrant communities fueling this event:


  • Lady Jacket Innovators (Center School District - Kansas City, MO) - Get ready for some powerful ideas from these local innovators!

  • Entitled Learning (Kansas City, MO) - We're eager to see what creative solutions this Kansas City team brings to the table.

  • WomEngineers (Columbia Area Career Center, Columbia, MO) - Brace yourselves for some serious engineering prowess from our neighbors in Columbia!

  • Raiders in Construction (MSOE - Milwaukee, WI) - Hailing from Milwaukee, this team is ready to build its way to the top!

  • Team WeCode KC (Kansas City, MO) - Expect some tech-savvy solutions from this talented Kansas City crew!

  • The Dream Makers (Kansas City, KS) - Representing the Kansas State School for the Blind, this team is sure to bring their A-game.

  • CTEC CAPS Creators (DeSoto, KS) - Keep an eye on this team from DeSoto – they're ready to make their mark!

  • Southern Heat (Alief Middle School) - This team is traveling all the way from Houston, Texas, ready to bring the heat to the competition! 


Each team will be composed of students guided by a Team Captain. These captains will play a crucial role in steering their teams, ensuring their innovative ideas are brought to life and make it across the finish line.
