This Weekend at MSOE: 8 Teams Gear Up for the Make48 Challenge!

The Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE), a renowned institution celebrated for its focus on engineering, business, and nursing, is anticipating the arrival of the Make48 competition. This weekend, eight dynamic teams will converge on campus for a thrilling battle of innovation.

Make48 is a high-energy invention competition that challenges teams to conceptualize, design, and prototype a product within a tight 48-hour timeframe. The specifics of this weekend's challenge remains a secret, but will be revealed at the event's kickoff on Friday, September 20th.

The Stakes Are High

The upcoming weekend promises to be an exhilarating whirlwind of collaboration and rapid prototyping. The winning team will not only take home a $2,000 grand prize but will also earn the honor of representing MSOE at the National Make48 competition in Kansas City, Missouri this November. The teams competing this weekend come from the local region.

  • COAH Crew (City on a Hill)

  • Cookie Cre8tors (Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Southeast)

  • Waukesha West TREK (Waukesha West H.S.)

Expert Support

The teams will receive invaluable guidance and support from seasoned Tool Techs, including makers Tyler Isaacs and Adam Kittrell. Experts like Matt Rohr (Onshape) and Nate Zanavich (ShopBot Tools) will assist with CAD design and CNC machining. Additionally, patent attorneys John Osmanski and Kevin Malaney will be on hand to ensure all intellectual property is handled correctly.

Experts from the Milwaukee area will also be on hand to get the teams to the finish line. Andy Baisch & Michael Meilicke (MSOE’s We Energies STEM Center), Wilfried Tapsoba (MSOE), Megan Behling (MSOE), Brett Tarczewski (MSOE), John Zehren (Gateway Industrial Design Fab Lab), and Monica James (CNH Industrial) will step into their first competition with Kyle Janssen  (UWM Prototyping Center) and Corey Roehl (CNC Solutions). The challenging task of selecting the winners falls to a distinguished panel of judges: Kristie Larson (The DeBruce Foundation), Natalie Villegas (MSOE), and DeAnna Leitzke (MSOE).
