Come with us to watch the final city series reel of 2021, the Make48-MakerspaceCT challenge with Stanley Black & Decker.

In the 3-minute highlight reel, eight teams competed in the final city series at MakerspaceCT in Hartford, Connecticut. Stanley Black & Decker, dedicated to educating and inspiring those who build and invent to make a better world, called the challenge of “Outdoor Lifestyle”. The teams had to build their prototype in one of the following categories:

  1. Ultimate Outdoor Audio

  2. Back Patio Entertainment

  3. Solar Home Solutions

  4. Back Patio Lighting

Teams had the support of many throughout the weekend, including a few makers you might watch and follow on YouTube and Instagram. Andy Klein (aklein2303), Ethan Carter (Ethan Carter Designs), Lindsay Zuelich (Wood Brain), Whitney Manney (whitneymanney), Lucas Mann D'Angelo (Mann Made in MA), and Andrea Fandetti (Crafts with Dre) helped out in Hartford, as did volunteers from ShopBot Tools, Maker Pipe, Blue Origin, and MakerspaceCT. Together the Tool Techs created the winning trophy and assisted the teams on their prototypes, bringing their ideas to life.

Mentors from Stanley Black & Decker also assisted the teams on their ideas, marketing, and messages to the judges. A leading group of Hartford business people from TR Woodcrafts, Emanus, Connecticut Science Center, and Aquiline Drones, also gave great advice to the teams at the 24 hour mark during the focus group. The requirements for the competition included: creating a prototype, sales sheet and 1 minute marketing video. After the clock ran down and the 48 hours were over, the teams (after a break) headed to the stage to pitch their ideas to a panel of judges. The judges in Hartford included representatives from Stanley Black & Decker, iDevices and Encapsulate. One winning team was chosen and won $2k, but the top two teams will be heading to Nationals (2022).

A big thank you to the teams at MakerspaceCT and Stanley Black & Decker! We could not have pulled it together without all their support from the very beginning. Watch now to get a taste of the action.
