Wichita's Second 'City Series' Highlight Sizzle

Make48 launched their second season of City Events in Wichita, Kansas. Eight teams had to brainstorm for a solution to the challenge theme “Community Gardening for Food Accessibility”, create a prototype, sales sheet, and a 1-minute marketing video at the GoCreate June event. As the Challenge Sponsor, Koch Industries and a team of community members crafted a challenge focused on improving access to food throughout Wichita. One winning team was chosen and won $2k and will represent Wichita at Nationals early next year (March, 2023).

The teams had the support of mentors and tool techs throughout the weekend. The volunteers came from local companies and organizations including; Koch Industries, GoCreate, PTC Onshape, Spirit AeroSystems, ShopBot Tools and Airgas. We also brought in a few makers to help including Lizzy Cook (House of Timber) and Tyler Isaacs (Wooden Whiskers Trading Co.) Together this amazing crew brought the team's ideas to life in just 48 hours.

Many of Wichita's top corporations and local establishments have been huge champions of our 48-hour competitions. We'd like to acknowledge those including; Cox Communications, Berry Companies, Dondlinger Construction, Textron Aviation, Bombardier, Wichita State University Foundation, Greater Wichita Partnership, Star Lumber, Great Harvest Bread Co., Fuzzy's Taco Shop, Chick-Fil-A and Metal Supermart.

A very special thank you to Kim and Ken, the leaders at GoCreate who go above and beyond for us, as well as their mentors and members. We can’t thank you enough for all the hard work, support and dedication you’ve given our team!
