Menomonie, WI – July 30, 2026 – The countdown is officially on. This weekend marks the end of the 2026 Make48 season as we head into our final regional competition of the season before the National Championship hits Kansas City this September.
From July 31st to August 2nd, UW-Stout Polytechnic will play host to our third major event of the year. To say the stakes are high is an understatement. This region shaped up to be the most packed bracket we’ve seen so far!
To help these teams build to their absolute fullest potential, an incredible support network of tool techs, mentors, focus group members, volunteers, and a dedicated patent attorney will be available so EVERY idea has a chance to come to life.
Challenge Hint: "Restaurant Ready!"
While the full challenge won't be revealed until a day before the clock starts, we can promise it’s a theme most Americans know and love. The hint? “Restaurant Ready!”
By giving the teams a head start on the prompt, these middle and high schoolers can make sure their prototypes are well thought out, while giving the hard-working tool techs ample time to do what they do best within the tight 48-hour window.
An event of this scale wouldn't be possible without our phenomenal sponsors. Business partners from Red Wing Shoe Company, Xcel Energy, Slaggie, Avek IP, Derrick Construction, 3M, Walthers, BioForward, MakerBot, UltiMaker, ShopBot Tools, Fastenal, Thunder Laser, and Trimble SketchUp will be heavily represented at the competition, with many volunteering as judges, mentors, a focus group, an IP attorney, and Tool Techs.

Nine amazing teams from the regional brackets have fought hard to meet at the live competition in Menomonie, Wisconsin.
From across the Midwest, students and their team leaders will head to UW-Stout Polytechnic...
Fall River (Fall River, WI)
Beloit Memorial High School (Beloit, WI)
Golda Meir School (Milwaukee, WI)
Parkview Middle School (WI)
White Bear Lake Area Schools (MN)
Cotter Schools (Winona, MN)
Homestead High School (Fort Wayne, IN)
Spring Garden Middle School (St. Joseph, MO)
Smithville High School (Smithville, MO)
Every second of their journey, from the late-night brainstorming sessions to the intense final hours, will be captured by the Make48 film crew. We can't wait to share all the highs and lows of bringing brand-new ideas to life in just 48 hours!

It's fantastic to see the "Restaurant Ready!" hint giving these young innovators a head start for the Make48 regional finals. With such a robust support system of mentors and patent attorneys, every team truly has a chance to shine, unlike the hidden roles in a game like town of salem. I can't wait to see what incredible solutions these middle and high schoolers develop in just 48 hours! 🎉
