Make48 held their first casting call for the Wichita city series event on April 24th.
The casting call was held at GoCreate for the June 24 - 26th event. The 48-hour competition will be held at their 18,000 sq. foot creative community makerspace. Engineers, makers, inventors, and even musicians applied to compete at the fastest-invention competition!
Those who came out included: current students and recent college graduates, coworkers, the Boy Scouts of America, and maker families, all representing the Sunflower state.
Koch Industries will serve as the competition’s Challenge Sponsor, helping craft the teams’ objective. The theme for the event will be Sustainability & Environmental Stewardship: Doing More with Less. Sustainability has become a very important key issue for all companies across the industries, and Koch Industries is looking forward to it.
“We are delighted Make48 is supporting Wichita entrepreneurs who are creating innovative solutions to the most pressing problems in our city,” said Meredith Olson, Vice President of Community Affairs for Koch Industries. “GoCreate provides the perfect environment for community members of all backgrounds to develop an entrepreneurial mindset.” As one of the largest private companies in America, Koch spans diverse industries, from manufacturing to consumer products to electronics to software.
Open to all ages, backgrounds and skill levels alike, Make48 is a nationwide, invention-competition docuseries that gives teams a challenge at the start of a two-day event. The top two winning teams of the Wichita series will move forward to the Nationals in 2022, and will be filmed as Season 5 for PBS.
With just 48 hours, teams must create a prototype, promotional video and a sales sheet and present their idea to a panel of judges. The teams have access to a makerspace and numerous Tool Techs that can make almost anything, thus allowing everyone to have a level playing field and the chance to win.
